Vince Cable has just become the new Leader of the Liberal Democrats. We are pleased to welcome him at what is a crucial time for British politics and the Liberal Democrats. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and gravitas (as well as excellent ballroom dancing skills, so we hear) to the role and we're excited to work alongside him as he leads the Party forwards. You can read a bit more about Vince and his plans in his manifesto here.
As we say hello to Vince, we also say a huge thank you to Tim Farron. Tim has been a good friend to LDCF and we are so grateful for all he has done as Party Leader. He has led with energy and passion, boldly speaking out on injustices and dramatically increasing the size of our Party. We wish him a restful holiday and our very best wishes. Going forward, we are looking forward to continuing our work alongside Tim in and outside Parliament.
The first events Vince is doing as Party Leader are meetings with Party Members. He wants to hear your views and answer your questions. We want to encourage you, if you are a Party Member, to head along to one that is most convenient for you. Details will be released on the Lib Dem website asap. Here are two that we already know about:
London, 7-9pm, 20th July
Manchester, 6-9pm, 22nd July
If you do head along, don't be afraid to ask him a question. In light of Tim Farron's resignation and the issues he exposed in it, it is important the Liberal Democrats are clear in their defence of our freedom of thought, conscience, religion and belief. Go along to find out what Vince's plans are to champion this.
We're looking forward to all that's ahead for the Liberal Democrats and to working with you as the Party enters this new season.
