Appointing an Ambassador for Religious Freedom

content_ambassadorpic.jpg

We are calling for the appointment of an Ambassador for International Freedom of Religion or Belief.

Almost 75% of the world’s population live in countries with high levels of government restrictions on freedom of religion or belief. In many of these countries people are killed or tortured because of their faith.

Freedom of religion is a human right, as outlined in Article 18 of the UNCHR. That’s the freedom to choose religion, change religion or hold no religion.

Help us to make the liberal voice of religious tolerance and peace louder.

John Kildea This is a worthy idea. We also need to remember that there have been instances in the UK when Christians have not had opportunity to continue in or to apply for employment or to express their faith because of the interpretation of certain laws. Freedom of religious expression may mean freedom not to support certain other points of view without fear of legal or other consequences.

An excellent idea BUT how about someone to stand up for the Christians in THIS COUNTRY who are being persecuted, denied jobs (even fired) for not going along with some of the recent Godless and nonsenical legislaton?

Freedom of religion and belief is an essential human right, and is something where LibDem are generally ahead of other parties. So putting a clear commitment in the Manifesto to a means of making this central is definitely something I would support.
